Counselling

"We can do hard things." - Glennon Doyle

Amelia Rising is here to help you get the information and tools you need to work through trauma and move toward recovery. Our trauma-informed, anti-oppressive approach is based on understanding and responding to sexual violence in a holistic way that considers physical, psychological, and emotional safety to empower and rebuild a feeling of control. We are committed to breaking down barriers that limit access to services, particularly for Indigenous peoples, 2SLGBTQ+ people, those with disabilities/identify as disabled, and those who live in poverty.

Our team provides eight (8) individual sessions which can be done in person, over the phone, or via video chat. Nearing the completion of their sessions, individuals have the option of returning to our waitlist one more time for an additional four (4) sessions, however we do not provide long-term, ongoing counselling. Our services are free, confidential, and available to any survivor of sexual or gender-based violence ages 12 and up.

We have a 24/H crisis line at 705-476-3355 for support and assistance provided by trained individuals for anyone who has been affected by sexual violence or for anyone looking to support someone who is in crisis. Our French crisis line, Fem’aide, is available at 1-877-336-2433 or by visiting www.femaide.ca.

Historical, childhood, domestic, intimate-partner, spousal, sexual, gender-based, online/digital, and sex trafficking related violence are eligible for counselling services. Violence does not have to have occurred within the Nipissing District, or recently, so long as the survivor currently resides within the Nipissing District.

We believe you. You are not alone.
