Photovoice 2021

Amelia Rising Sexual Violence Support Centre provides free, completely confidential support for people 12 years of age and older who have experienced sexual or gender-based violence. Photovoice is a project we run annually for survivors. It provides space and opportunity for survivors to document their own experience of sexual and gender-based violence through photography or art, and accompanying narrative.

Self Discovery was the theme of 2021’s Photovoice. It is an experience that is personal and can look different for everyone. Self Discovery can be the journey, end result, or both for folks who are in a healing process after experiencing sexual violence. Everyone’s path to healing is unique. The use of photography and artwork can help survivors make meaning out of those experiences. This year we are seeing the art made from folks’ journeys of self-discovery and healing from sexual and gender-based violence.
